TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers held their own against Eastern Oregon, dropping their first game 5-0 before nearly taking down the No. 3 ranked Mounties in game two.
How it Happened
Game 1
Lauren Perryman got the start in the circle for the Loggers, striking out one in the top of the first inning. The Mountaineers scored one unearned run in the top of the first as well, as Perryman got out of a jam. Eastern Oregon put up a total of four more runs in the top of the second and third innings, jumping out to a 5-0 lead.
Kayla Lester got her first collegiate hit in the bottom of the third inning, picking up the Loggers' first hit of the day after coming in for
Alyssa Waldo.
Kara Miyoshi jumped into the circle in the top of the fourth, pitching three shutout innings for the Loggers.
Kat Avanzino and
Alyssa Figueroa got the log rolling in the bottom of the fourth, both getting base hits with no outs. The Loggers couldn't capitalize, though, as they remained down 0-5 through four.
Miyoshi pitched well in the fifth and sixth innings, and
Olivia Boures' single to left center in the sixth put a runner on first. A pair of strikeouts ended the inning, though, as the Loggers couldn't quite get it done.
Alison Madia came in to pitch for Mioshi in the seventh, getting out of a jam to keep the Mounties scoreless. Three final outs later, and the Loggers dropped this one, 5-0.
Game 2
Eastern Oregon got on the board early to start the second game of the doubleheader, as Madia got the start in the circle in game two. The Loggers bounced back with a run of their own in the second, as
Kylie Tanimura got on base thanks to an Eastern error. Lester moved Tanimura to third with a groundout, and another error by the Mountaineer sent Tanimura home.
After a scoreless second inning on both sides of the plate,
Nyomi Estrada came in to pitch for Madia. She got out of a jam in the top of the third, keeping the game tied at one. In the bottom of the third, the Loggers went on a two-out rally to score another run. Waldo singled to right field, Boures walked, and an Avanzino single sent Waldo home to put the Loggers up 2-1.
Estrada went on to pitch a gem for the Loggers, as they held onto a 2-1 lead all the way into the top of the seventh inning. A three-run seventh for Eastern put the Mountaineers back on top, though, and the Loggers came up just short, 4-2.
