SALEM, Oregon (February 15, 2025) – The Loggers (3-1) dominated against Corban University (0-4) in their first away doubleheader of the season. Both games ended early, with the Loggers up 8-0 in the first game by inning six, and 16-0 in the second by inning five.
Claire Besancon led off the first inning with a single that would later turn into the first run of the game. She was able to advance to second off a passed ball, and again to third on an error, where she was joined on base by
Aislind Dail.
Alyssa Figueroa was next up to bat, and her hit allowed Besancon to score.
In the second inning,
Jazzy Allen scored on a passed ball to bring the Loggers up 2-0. Three more runs were scored in the top of the fourth by
Brenna Flannery, Besancon, and
Kylie Tanimura. Tanimura led the show, batting in both Flannery and Besancon with a single to right field. She then stole second, and was batted in by
Mikayla Johnson.
Besancon scored her third run of the game in the sixth inning to put the Loggers ahead by six. Looking to end the game, Figueroa hit a homer to center field, batting in Dail who led Besancon's earlier score.
Nyomi Estrada got the win for the Loggers, having pitched all six innings. Figueroa also had a strong showing with three RBIs out of her four at bats.
The Loggers kept the momentum going into their second game, scoring eight runs in the first inning. With Tanimura on second, Dail hit her second RBI of the day, batting in Tanimura for the first run. The next play, Figueroa hit a single to bat in Dail. Allen was next up to bat, and although she hit a ground out, Figueroa scored,
Alyssa Waldo advanced to third, and Johnson landed on second, setting the Loggers up for success.
Savannah Manley hit a single to send Waldo and Johnson home, putting the Loggers up 5-0. Manley also scored on the next hit. Flannery and Besancon scored the last two runs of the inning. The Loggers were unstoppable, and went through their entire lineup before Corban was able to get them off the plate.
The third and fourth innings were no different. Flannery, Tanimura, Dail, and Figueroa scored in the third inning as a result of errors made by Corban's third basemen. In the fourth, Besancon, Dail, and
Liberty Shake scored the final three runs of the game.
As the pitcher for the full second game, the win went to
Alison Madia who only allowed one player from Corban on base. Besancon led the team, scoring five runs on the day. She was followed in suit by Dail and Figueroa with four. Figueroa also led the team with five RBIs.
The Loggers will have the next few weeks off before they kick off conference play against Pacific University on March 8th and 9th.
