Badger's Six Blocks Lead Loggers to 3-0 Sweep of Bruins

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Loggers continued to impress with a massive 3-0 sweep over George Fox.

How it Happened
Maddie Badger wasted no time against the Bruins, notching a kill on the first point of the game to lead the Loggers on a 4-0 opening run. Amelia Reed also had an ace during that span, as the Loggers continued to pile on the points. Erin Fagan contributed an ace of her own, and a couple of Bruin errors gave the Loggers a comfortable 8-2 lead.

Three straight points from Fox pulled the Bruins within three, but an 8-0 run put the set out of reach. Gianna Friendy recorded an ace, while Mackenzie Leith and Mia Fedota got in on the action, both recording kills on their run. The Loggers slowly climbed their way closer to the 25-point mark, as Fagan secured two kills to polish off the set, 25-14.

In the second set, the Loggers found themselves going back and forth with the Bruins. Fox pulled ahead 5-3, but an 8-1 run put the Loggers in a good position. Flannery Lundgren logged back-to-back kills, picking up two blocks in that span as well. Another 5-0 run thanks to three straight Logger kills made it 17-8, as a block and a kill by Badger put the Loggers up by 11. A 9-1 Bruin run gave the home team some momentum, but two kills by Leith and a 3-0 run put an end to their comeback. The Loggers took set two 25-19.

The third set was back to regularly scheduled programming. The loggers took a 7-3 lead thanks to multiple kills by Badger and Fagan, going on another run in the middle of the set. Akira Anderson had an ace, Ursula Harrington had a block and a kill, and Samantha Keightley also had an ace as the Loggers extended their lead to ten.

The Bruins put up points here and there, but it was all Loggers to end the set. Fagan had back-to-back aces, Badger and Randi Rush had a block, and Fagan polished the match with a final kill. Puget Sound took the third set 25-12, claiming their second straight sweep and 10th straight conference win.

Top Performers
Badger continued to impress, securing six blocks, 11 kills, and a .400 hitting percentage. Fagan had three aces, three blocks, 10 kills, and a .333 hitting percentage in her best weekend of the year so far.

Coach's Thoughts
Our laser beam serving across the whole team cracked open GFU's reception and triggered a dominating road sweep," said Logger head coach Mark Massey. "Maddie led us offensively and defensively with 11 kills and six blocks, along with Erin, who just assembled a superb weekend both front row and back. Our serving also set up one of our strongest blocking performances this fall. Maddie and Makela were an intimidating pair against their outsides. Randi dug some extremely tough balls and turned numerous difficult rallies in our favor. Every single player on our bench contributed on the court tonight."

What Happens Next
The Loggers head back to Tacoma, facing a quick turnaround as they play cross-town rival Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday, October 21st. The game is set for 7:00 pm in Parkland, Wash.
