Brennan's sharp and Ota homers, but the Loggers lose late to George Fox

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – Joe Brennan worked seven strong innings and the Loggers erased a three-run deficit, but the George Fox baseball team put together a big ninth-inning rally to beat Puget Sound, 7-5, at Logger Field Sunday afternoon.

The Loggers (4-9, 1-5 NWC) trailed 3-0 before tying the game in the bottom of the third inning. Hunter Riley drew a one-out walk and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Kyle Strash came through with an RBI single, and then he scored from first on a double by Mason Quinlan.

Quinlan then advanced to third on a wild pitch, and Corey Roberts tied the game with a sac fly to right field.

The Bruins (10-2, 6-0 NWC) tacked a run in the fifth inning, but Jacob Ota tied it up with a solo home run in the sixth. The sophomore cleared the left-field fence for his second home run of the season.

The teams remained tied, 4-4, entering the ninth inning, but George Fox rallied for three runs in the top of the frame.

Puget Sound appeared poised for a rally of its own in the bottom of the ninth. Ota led off with a double and Ricardo Barraza immediately followed with a single. However, only Ota came around to score in the inning.

Brennan allowed just three earned runs in seven innings. He retired the Bruins in order in each of the second, fourth, and sixth innings.

Quinlan and Ota both finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Puget Sound continues its conference season with three games at Pacific Lutheran, March 7-8.
