Box Score 2 PORTLAND, Ore. – The Puget Sound baseball team fell twice on Saturday after rain suspended its Friday game. The Loggers (2-5-1) fell 17-10 in the continued game against Concordia and then 17-3 against Pacific later in the day.
Game 1 – L, 17-10
The Cavaliers scored 10 runs in the first three innings to take command of the game early. Mike Cero tripled home two in the first to give the Cavaliers the initial lead and Sean Myrom singled home another run in the second.
Will Mentor led off the top of the second with a triple for the Loggers and later scored when the Cavaliers turned a double play.
In the third, the Cavaliers exploded for six runs to blow the game open. The continued to score in every inning except the sixth, including a four-run seventh.
Mentor went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.to lead the Loggers offensively. After going down 10-1, the Loggers scored two in fourth, one in the fifth and three runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
Paul Webster had a two-RBI double in the eighth to help spark the rally.
In the end, the Loggers issued 16 walks in the game and gave up 12 hits as the Cavaliers took advantage to put 17 runs on the board.
Game 2 – L, 17-3
The pitching woes continued for the Loggers in the second game against Pacific as 16 more walks were issued in the frigid temperatures in Portland. The Boxers pounded out 17 runs on 12 hits to capture the convincing win.
After a scoreless first inning, the Boxers opened the flood gates with five runs in the second and three more in the third.
In the bottom of the fourth, Addison Melzer put the Loggers on the board with a sac fly to center. However, Pacific had already built a 9-0 lead and they weren't done scoring three more in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Jake Boley scored on a wild pitch for the Loggers in the fifth and Melzer homered in the sixth to account for the Loggers three runs in the game.
The Loggers will now play Oregon Tech twice tomorrow to conclude the weekend.
