PARKLAND, Wash. – Just as it seemed that a brick wall was protecting net, the University of Puget Sound women's soccer team finally pushed in a goal in the 71st minute…then another…then another. In less than three minutes, the Loggers (14-1-2) were up 3-0 on Pacific Lutheran and went on to a 4-0 victory.
Kelly Andersen opened the flood gates with a goal from seven yards outs off a pass from Kayla Boortz in the 71st minute. With a 1-0 lead, Theresa Henle took over the match and scored the next two goals just 46 seconds apart.
In the 73rd minute, Stefani Vert found Henle in the box for her first goal and 46 seconds later Henle struck again when Abby Goss found Henle open in the box again for her second goal of the game and 14th goal of the season.
The Loggers had dominated the first 70 minutes of the match, outshooting the Lutes (3-12-1, 3-9-1) 10-1 in the first half and 23-6 in the match. Lauren Chambard made seven of her 11 saves in the first half to keep the match scoreless, but the Lutes eventually succumbed to the Loggers' pressure as they scored their first three goals in a three minute span.
Jenny Moore capped the Loggers victory with a goal in the 85th minute. Lauren Swanson and Mikaela Freeman earned assists on the play after Freeman's corner kick (one of 13 for the Loggers in the match) was flicked in by Swanson to an unmarked Moore for her fifth goal of the year.
The win gave the Loggers a four-point lead in the NWC with three matches remaining. The Loggers return home this Saturday when they host George Fox for Senior Day at noon on East Field.
