NEWBERG, Ore. - - The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team traveled to George Fox University on Sunday to face the Bruins. Despite the effort from the Loggers, George Fox claimed a 7–0 victory in Northwest Conference play.
How It Happened
The afternoon began with a challenging doubles round where the Loggers looked to find their footing. While the pairings of Gavin Dille and Tyler Flixt, along with the duo of Sam Lowery and Aidan Kresko, fought to keep rallies alive, the home team managed to sweep the opening session to take an early lead.
Moving into singles play, the Loggers showed flashes of resilience, particularly at the top of the lineup. Dille put up a strong fight, pushing his opponent in a competitive 6-2, 6-4 battle that saw some of the longest rallies of the day. Meanwhile, Vincent Unpingco and Reef Gelder worked through tough sets in the middle of the order, but the Bruins continued to stay ahead.
Even with a short-handed roster, the squad saw several players stepping into higher positions to fill gaps. Head coach, Matthew Simons noted the internal growth to the program despite the final score. "Everyone stepped up and is continuing to play their best tennis, the wins will follow."
While the final score line was one-sided, the team looks to take lessons back to Tacoma as they continue their conference schedule.
