SPOKANE, Wash. - - Following a high-energy performance on Friday night, the University of Puget Sound swimming teams faced a demanding road test against Whitworth University on Saturday. The Logger men fell 74-131, while the women were defeated 71-131.

How it Happened
Sophomore Sam Lyon continued his stellar weekend, proving to be a force in the distance events. Lyon finished first-place in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a commanding time of 16:13.24 before returning to win the 500-yard freestyle in 4:45.01.
In the sprint events, Emory Burden remained a leader for the Loggers, battling to second-place finishes in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. Anderson Bennett was also a standout performer, touching first in the 100-yard breaststroke. Liam Tudor secured a win for Puget Sound in the 100-yard butterfly. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Burden, Joel Liu, Tudor, and Lyon also delivered a nail-biting performance, finishing second- just 0.52 seconds behind Whitworth's side.Â
On the women's side, senior Maddy Brennan led the charge with two individual victories. Brennan outpaced the field in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.29 and later claimed the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly. Lelia Ollenburg took a narrow third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, missing second place by a mere 0.03 seconds.Â
The Loggers also found success in the shortest race of the day, as Adi Cosbey-Lewis fought for a win in the 50-yard freestyle. The Puget Sound women capped off the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Holly Zipay, Harper McGuire, Ollenburg, and Amy Madsen combined for a first-place finish of 1:43.42.
What Happens Next
Despite the final scores, Puget Sound showed continued momentum, earning individual event wins against a deep Whitworth roster. The Loggers will close out the regular season next Saturday with a road meet against Pacific Lutheran University at 1 PM.
