Logger Baseball Pushes Past Lutes

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound Loggers (11-7) showcased offensive power and resilience in a 10-6 victory over the Pacific Lutheran Lutes (6-11) at PLU.

The Loggers wasted no time, plating two runs in the first inning off a double by second baseman Makana Murashige. Murashige struck again in the third with another two-run double, extending Puget Sound's lead to 5-0. However, Pacific Lutheran flipped the script in the fifth and launched a grand slam to cap off a six-run inning, giving the Lutes a brief 6-5 advantage.

Puget Sound answered immediately, taking advantage of erratic pitching in the sixth. Kahiau Teruya and Kellen Krebs were both hit by pitches with the bases loaded, forcing in two runs to put the Loggers back on top. They tacked on additional insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings, highlighted by a clutch RBI single from Jim O'Brien.

On the mound, Puget Sound's Cooper Allen (1-0) picked up the win in relief and the bullpen held Pacific Lutheran scoreless over the final four innings, with Harley Eschliman and Braden Blackwell delivering solid performances.

The Logger offense tallied nine hits, led by Murashige, who went 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Charlie Deggeller contributed with two hits, a double, and a run scored, while Drew Kamihara and Ryan Tobler each swiped a base to keep the pressure on the Lutes' defense.

Puget Sound looks to build on this victory as they continue their season. Their next series will take place in Portland against the Lewis and Clark Pioneers this upcoming weekend.
