TACOMA, Wash. – In an electric 8 run first inning, Puget Sound (7-2, 2-2) held on for a 10-8 victory over Whitworth (6-5, 1-2) on Sunday at Paul Merkel field in Spokane, Wa. While the Pirates fought their way back to a close game, the Loggers proved their resilience through the close of the ninth inning. The Loggers offense caused mayhem for the Pirates in the first inning with seven hits through 12 batters, including an RBI double for
Cooper Allen and a two-run single
Kahiau Teruya. With the Loggers up 9-8 at the top of the ninth,
Cody Hirano launched a solo home run to left center to secure extra insurance for the Logger's victory.
The team tallied 12 hits on the day led by
Cadence Ueyama's three hit performance. Both Hirano and Ueyama drove in two of the Logger's 10 runs.
With Puget Sound improving to 7-2 on the season, they look to build on the momentum from today's win on the road versus Claremont-Mudd-Scripps college down in California on Friday, March 7th. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., and then the Loggers will face the Stags again on Saturday for a doubleheader, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
