Loggers Kick Off Season With Undefeated Series

LOS ANGELES, California (February 15, 2025) – In a three game series the Loggers (3-0) swept the Occidental Tigers (0-3) 6-4, 8-0, and 11-3 to start their season off undefeated.

The first runs by the Loggers were scored during the top of the fifth inning. With two runners on base, Kahiau Teruya hit a single and Drew Kamihara ran from third to score. Makana Murashige was able to advance to third, and was quickly batted in by Ryan Spero. With Teruya on third, Sean Murphy hit a sacrifice fly out to left field allowing Teruya to score and bring the Loggers up 3-0.

The Loggers were able to continue their momentum into the sixth inning, where they scored four more runs. Leading off, Aidan Sullivan quickly landed on third after walking, a wild pitch, and an error by the Tigers catcher. At the same time, Cadence Ueyama walked and ended up on second after the error. Kamihara hit a single to left field and both Sulllivan and Ueyama scored. Kamihara was followed up by Murashige with another single. Teruya landed on base after being hit with a wild pitch, and with bases loaded Spero was able to bat in two of the runners. Murphy hit another sacrifice fly to get Teruya in at home for the last run.

The Tigers were unable to string anything together the remainder of the game and in the top of the ninth Kamihara got one last run on a play led by Matt Churchill to top off the game 8-0.

Charlie Decker pitched the first five innings for the Loggers and came out with the win, ceding two hits and no runs.

In the second game of the day, and the final matchup between the two teams, the Loggers started off strong, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. They scored three more in the third, and two more in the fifth, but the seventh inning was really where they dug in, scoring five runs, compared to the Oxy three.

Cal Johnson was credited with the win after pitching the first five innings. He was followed by Nevan Lee and Tucker Berg who closed out the game. Mirashige, Teruya, and Spero led the Loggers today with four runs each between the two games. Spero also led the team with five RBI.

The Loggers continue their tour of California playing tomorrow at 11am against Redlands.
