TACOMA, Washington (February 1, 2025) — The University of Puget Sound swim teams showcased their depth and speed on Saturday, overpowering Pacific Lutheran in a commanding dual meet performance. The Loggers' women's team secured a dominant 163-56 victory, while the men's team posted an impressive 206.5-45.5 win. Seniors Josh Cunningham, Jaden Francis, Lara Franco, Sofia Gaspar, Sara Guillen, Julia Meyers, and Lance Mielke were all celebrated as a part of the senior day festivities during the final home meet - dubbed "Make a Splash".
Puget Sound wasted no time setting the tone, as both the men's and women's squads won the 200-yard medley relay. The women's A-team, featuring Harper McGuire, Trinity Link, Lelia Ollenburg, and Abby Prouty, clocked in at 1:51.34 to take first place. Meanwhile, the men's A-team of Will Cabana, Lance Mielke, Sam Lyon, and Emory Burden touched the wall at 1:33.57, edging out their seed time of 1:34.44.
Individually, Sara Guillen led the women's team with a pair of strong performances, winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.57) and the 100-yard freestyle (56.07). Camille McClafferty added to the dominance, capturing first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.89), while Link sprinted to victory in the 50-yard freestyle (25.13) and 100-yard butterfly (58.83). Lara Franco, Hazel Knight, and Amelia Mercado took the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke.
On the men's side, Burden stood out with wins in the 50-yard freestyle (21.30) and 100-yard freestyle (47.49). Cabana delivered a stellar performance in the 100-yard backstroke (51.22), while Bryce Kirk led the distance events with a first-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:17.71). Additionally, Mielke dominated the 100-yard breaststroke with a 57.45 finish.
The Loggers continued their momentum in the relays, closing out the meet with victories in the 200-yard freestyle relay for both the men and women. The women's team, anchored by McGuire, finished in 1:41.13, while the men's squad, led by Burden, sealed the meet with a 1:25.71 finish.
With the conference championship on the horizon, Puget Sound's impressive showing serves as a statement of their depth and competitiveness heading into the postseason. Logger swimming next takes on all Northwest Conference opponents at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center for the NWC Championships, from February 13th to 16th.
