OLYMPIA, Wash. - - Puget Sound delivered a commanding performance on both ends of the court, cruising to an 88-49 win over Evergreen State.
How it Happened
The Loggers jumped out to an immediate lead, with
Grace Lee putting Puget Sound on the board with a jump shot, assisted by
Cayton Smith. On the next possession,
Hailey Quiggle sank the three-pointer, assisted by Lee, to quickly push the score to 5-0. The defense got involved with a steal by
Claire Thompson shortly after, capping off a perfect first minute of scoring. With strong pushes from both teams, the score was kept to 19-15 after the first quarter.
Puget Sound broke the game open in the second quarter,
Mele Sake was instrumental with an offensive rebound and scoring two layups in the first minute of the period to extend the lead 23-17. The logger offense kept rolling,
Cayton Smith hit a key three-point shot, assisted by Quiggle, pushing the score to 35-23. Sake continued to dominate in the paint, completing a three-point play with a made layup and free throw. A steal by Thompson at the 1:26 mark highlighted the defensive pressure that allowed Puget Sound to hold Evergreen to single-digit scoring in the quarter.
The Loggers came out firing, with
Mele Sake grabbing an offensive rebound and scoring a jump shot. The run continued when
Cayton Smith drained a three-pointer, assisted by Quiggle, pushing the lead to 57-29.
Brianna Forbess took little time to make a difference coming off the bench then hitting a three-point jump shot, followed shortly by
Natalia Sefair-Lopez layup, showcasing the Loggers' impressive depth and balance.
The final quarter saw the Loggers close out the game with consistency, matching their third-quarters stats with 22 points.
Hailey Quiggle knocked down another three-point shot, assisted by
Claire Thompson, to put the Loggers up 80-45 with 3:44 remaining. Quiggle hit yet another three-pointer later in the quarter, assisted by Sefair-Lopez, continuing her perfect night from long range.
Ayana Peterson-Henry capped off the offensive attack with a final jump shot to secure the 88-49 victory.
