Loggers Win First Game of the Season Against Bethany College

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers bounce the Bethany College Bison, taking home a 94-78 win for their first dub of the season.

How it Happened
The game got off to an intense start, as both teams got quick buckets and caused immediate turnovers to start the game. Five threes total on both sides started the game, as the Loggers took an early 9-6 lead. Puget Sound then started to slow down the pace, settling into the match and extending their lead on a couple of solid layups by Cody Gardanier, Hugo Rutherford, and Beckett Turner

Miles Macdonald entered the game and made an immediate impact, cashing in five quick points and an assist to make it 26-15 Loggers. The team's lead extended to 13 on a jump shot by Trevon Hamilton, as Hamilton later drew a foul and knocked down his free throws to make it 43-25.

After the Bison slowly crawled back towards the end of the first half, a final bucket by Turner gave the Loggers a 13-point lead at halftime. They maintained their lead through the first media timeout of the second half, even extending it by a point thanks to solid action by Zane Miller, Aaydan Saucedo, and Dezman Baker

Kobe Smith then made a splash with 15 minutes left in the second half, getting to the paint on a fast break and securing the and-one with a tough bucket. The Loggers extended their lead to 19 with a bucket by Miller, and again to 20 as Miller drained a three less than 30 seconds later.

A well-fought battle continued to go the Loggers' way, as they maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the night. They finished the day with buckets by Conor Maguire and Asher Abeles-Tierney - their first of their collegiate career as the Loggers took this one, 94-78.

Top Performers
Miller was the hot hand of the night, scoring 18 with 4 rebounds, and going 7-12 from the field. Rutherford was also a dominant force tonight, logging 5 blocks to go with his 15 points.

Coach's Thoughts
"Great bounce back win!" said Logger head coach Aubrey Shelton. Loved to see our defensive improvement guarding the three. Offensively, it was quite a shooting performance as 15 players scored and we were able to put up 94 points despite 19 turnovers and 8 missed free throws. Our bench energy and effort tonight was outstanding and everyone contributed positive minutes.  It was also special to see freshmen Cody Gardanier, Khaled Artharee, Conor Maguire, and Asher Abeles-Tierney all get their first college buckets!"

What Happens Next
The Loggers stay at home to play Nebraska Wesleyan at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 21st.
