SPOKANE, Washington (January 4, 2025) – The Puget Sound Loggers (2-9, 1-1 NWC) wrapped up their first weekend of conference play with a 92-75 win over the Whitworth University Pirates (4-7, 1-1 NWC).
Whitworth took an early lead, going up 6-2 and later 14-10. The Loggers didn't take the lead until the final three minutes of the first half, eventually going ahead 24-20. They held the lead through the second quarter after going on a 10-2 run.
Puget Sound continued to dominate in the second half, at one point leading by 20. Their defense limited Whitworth to 18 points in the third quarter, nearly half of which came from free throws. The strong start allowed the Loggers to hold a comfortable lead going into the final quarter, where they added 22 more points.
While the Pirates made twice as many free throws as the Loggers, the key difference was three-point shooting. The Loggers hit 50% of its attempts, while the Pirates connected on just 20%. The Loggers also outshot the Pirates 63-57 in the paint, allowing them to maintain the lead for more than 80% of the game.
Paige Oh recorded a career-high 22 points, followed by
Claire Thompson, who also set a career-high with 14 points.
Emme Eisenman added 12 rebounds, another career-high, along with 10 points.
The Loggers return home next weekend for games against Pacific University and Linfield University. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.
