Logger softball drops two at PLU

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound Logger softball team lost two games to Pacific Lutheran University, 4-2, 10-3, on Friday at PLU Field.

Game 1: Puget Sound 2, Pacific Lutheran 4

In a fierce showdown between town rivals, the game started with a promising offensive effort from the Loggers in the top of the first inning, with Kimora Phillips drawing a walk and advancing to third on a passed ball. However, the Loggers were unable to capitalize on the opportunity, leaving Phillips stranded on base.

The Lutes quickly gained momentum in the bottom of the first, with Casey Wright drawing a walk and eventually crossing home plate on a groundout by Paola Garcia. Then, Emma Ware added to the Lutes' lead with a home run, putting them ahead 2-0 early in the game.

Despite their best efforts, the Loggers struggled to find their rhythm offensively, failing to score in the second and third innings.

In the bottom of the third, the Lutes extended their lead to 3-0 after Kassidi Dean's RBI single brought in one.

The Loggers fought back in the top of the fourth, with Claire Besancon and Jazzy Allen both recording singles, but they were unable to convert their opportunities into runs.

As the game progressed, both teams battled fiercely on the field, but neither could add to the scoreboard in the fifth, sixth, or seventh innings.

In the end, the Pacific Lutheran Lutes emerged victorious with a final score of 4-2, clinching the win in this intense match-up.

Game 2: Puget Sound 3, Pacific Lutheran 10

In the second game of a thrilling double-header the Puget Sound Loggers clashed with the Pacific Lutheran Lutes.

The Loggers took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Aislinn O'Reilly's double brought home Jessica Moore, putting them ahead 1-0. However, the Lutes quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, with a single followed by a stolen base and eventually a groundout to tie the score at 1-1.

In the second inning, the Loggers threatened again with runners in scoring position but were unable to capitalize. The Lutes then seized the momentum in the bottom of the inning, scoring another run to take a 2-1 lead.

The Loggers battled back in the top of the fourth, with Abby Pearce's two-run homer putting them back in the lead at 3-2. However, the Lutes rallied in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to regain control of the game with a score of 5-3.

Despite their efforts, the Loggers were unable to mount a comeback in the remaining innings, ultimately falling to the Lutes with a final score of 10-3.

The Puget Sound softball team will finish out the series and their regular home season tomorrow on Logger Field at 11 a.m. Please come to celebrate our six softball seniors in their work as Loggers.
