Game Recap: Softball |

Kessler, Moore both score homers in split doubleheader with Pacific University

TACOMA, Wash. – Ema Kessler and Jessica Moore each scored homeruns in the split doubleheader against Pacific University at Logger Field on Saturday.

Puget Sound 12, Pacific 8

Kimora Phillips, Mikayla Johnson, Jazzy Allen, and Moore all scored doubles in the first game win and Hope Fleischman and Johnson scored doubles in the second game.

Claire Besancon earned the first run of the day stealing home as the Pacific catcher hurled the ball to second base for the steal at that base. The Boxers would score two runs in the top of the second.

In the third inning, a two-run homer from Kessler would bring the lead back to the Loggers, 3-2. The game saw multiple lead changes until the sixth inning when the Loggers went on a seven-run stampede. Jazzy Allen led off with a double to left field, followed by a single from freshman Mira Solam to score Allen. Shortly after, Phillips doubled to left field scoring in two Loggers. Puget Sound then held the Boxers to just three more runs in the final inning to take the victory.

Aislinn O'Reilly would pitch all seven innings allowing only six earned runs out of 32 at bats.

Puget Sound 5, Pacific 14 (six innings)

The Puget Sound Loggers grabbed the first run off a single to center field from Jessica Moore. The Boxers would equalize in the next inning with a sacrifice fly to score in Kayla Kodani.

In the top of the third, the Boxers would score four runs on two hits and the Loggers would sub-in Alison Madia to pitcher, allowing a single-run homerun and then a groundout to end the inning.  The Loggers continued to get on base, Mikayla Johnson bat for a double and scored Moore, but the Boxers continued to increase their lead scoring in the fourth and fifth, leading 14-4 in the top of the sixth inning.

Hope Fleischman would slam a double to score in Brenna Flannery, but a strikeout would end the game early in the bottom of the sixth.

The Logger Softball team will be back on Logger Field for a doubleheader against SUNY Oneonta, on March 18, at noon and 2 p.m.
