TACOMA, Wash. – Kahiau Teruya slams another homerun in a 12-7 loss to George Fox University on Sunday afternoon. The Loggers fall to 9-12 overall and 1-5 in Northwest Conference play.
The George Fox Bruins ran to a 5-0 lead in the first inning after a double scored in two Bruins and a homer from the 6-foot-7-inch Jonathan Stone who scored in three more runners. The Loggers continued to struggle offensively until the bottom of the fourth, with two outs on the board,
Jack McCullar doubled to score in
Makana Murashige who got on base with a single to left field. The Bruins responded with two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth, but a double play from the Loggers would end their efforts early.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Drew Kamihara doubled to left field to open the field for a chain of seven hits and five runs. Starting with a base hit from freshman
Jim O'Brien followed by a single from Murashige to score one in and force the Bruins to make a pitcher change.
Gio Parascondola followed with a one-run double along with singles from Teruya and freshman
Brock Makishima, each scoring in one. Finally a double from
Nathan Blocher would be the last hit before another pitcher would enter for the Bruins and strikeout two Loggers and end the inning with three Loggers left on base.
Meanwhile, the Bruins continued to inch away scoring one more run in the seventh inning. Then, the Loggers answered with a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh from Teruya, his third of the season.
The Loggers would load the bases in the eighth inning, but they wouldn't be able to convert. Puget Sound entered in six pitchers, but
Ethan Rattie would close out for the Loggers moving three batters back to the dugout in his first inning. In the ninth inning, Rattie allowed two hits, no runs, and had one strikeout.
The Loggers will be back on Logger Field to face Whitworth University in a three-game series on Saturday, March 29, at noon and 3 p.m. and March 30, at noon.
