TACOMA, Washington (October 12, 2024) - Logger Women's soccer (4-4-3, 4-1-2 NWC) worked hard to add a W to their record this evening, but unfortunately were about as unlucky as could be. The match stayed tight throughout, but it was clear from the start that the Loggers had the advantage. Kya Scott played a furious game, pushing past and ultimately out-skilling the Whitworth Pirates' left back. Scott finished the game with four shots and just one on goal, but she was knocking on the door all evening. It was in the 84th minute when Emily O'Neil cleaned up a deflection at the top of the box, driving it hard at the net. The ball slipped past the goalkeeper, sending the Loggers ahead 1-0.
However, the elation didn't last. After a foul was committed by the Loggers about 35 yards from their goal, Pirate Katherine Kent swung in a cross to the 6-yard box of Gianna Maldonado. In an effort to clear the ball, O'Neil accidentally found the back of the Loggers' net too - scoring an own goal and setting the score to 1-1.
The Loggers next play Sunday, October 12 at 2:45 against Whitman College.
