Gio Parascondola hit his first home run of the season as the Puget Sound baseball team completed its three-game sweep at Whittier Saturday.

Four Loggers collected multiple hits as Puget Sound won the second game of the series at Whittier, 9-5.

The Loggers struck first in the opening inning.
Makana Murashige hit a one-out single, and he moved to third base on a single by
Jack McCullar.
Gio Parascondola hit a third consecutive single give the Loggers a 1-0 lead.

Whittier evened the score in the bottom of the first, but Puget Sound rallied for four runs in the second. Puget Sound put runners in scoring position when
William Gross drew a walk and
Nathan Blocher followed with a double to right-center. Hirano delivered a two-run single to give the Loggers a 3-1 lead.

Following a walk to
Dylan Joyce, Murashige ripped a double to right-center, allowing Hirano to easily score as Joyce took third. The rally ended with a sac fly by McCullar, as Joyce touched home plate to give the Loggers a 5-1 edge.

Blocher's bat stayed hot in the fifth inning when he belted a two-run triple that pushed the lead to 8-3.

Brett Harvey earned the win in his first start of the season, working 6.2 innings and striking out six.

Hirano, Murashige, Parascondola, and Blocher eached finished with two hits.

Puget Sound 5, Whittier 2
Dylan Joyce hit his third home run of the weekend, and Gia Parascondola cleared the outfield fences for the first time in 2023 as the Loggers completed their three-game sweep over Whittier with a 5-2 win.

Nathan Blocher led off the game with a single to center, and he came in to score when Joyce followed with a double. Murashige provided an RBI single in the second inning to give the Loggers a 2-0 lead.

Whittier tied the game in the fifth inning, but Puget Sound put up three runs in the seventh inning. Both Joyce and Parascondola homered during the rally, and Jack MucCullar hit a sac fly.

Murashige finished 3-for-5 at the plate, and Joyce went 2-for-5.

Peter Fagan earned the win out of the bullpen, working two shutout innings. Freshman
Cal Johnson notched the save by striking out four in two shutout innings.

The Loggers remain in California to take on Occidental for one game Sunday, Feb. 5.
