TACOMA, Washington – Senior
Clayton Waltz hit a home run and doubled twice, while freshman
Brett Harvey spun five shutout innings in the Puget Sound baseball team's 13-3 win over Pacific Lutheran in Cheney Stadium Thursday night. Cheney Stadium is home to the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
Â
Harvey allowed only four hits and walked one to earn his third win of the season. It was the 12
th appearance – and fourth start – for the first-year Logger.
Â
With the Loggers up 4-0 in the fifth inning, Gio Parasacondola reached base with a single. Waltz then belted a pitch off the wall in left-center field. The Lutes' centerfielder leaped into the wall, but didn't come up with the ball. Waltz sprinted all the way around the bases for a two-run inside-the-park home run.
Â
Shane Himeda put up one of the most interesting stat lines baseball fans will see at any level. He went 0-for-2 at the plate and drove in three runs. Each of his RBI came when he was hit by a pitch with the bases load.
Â
William Gross went 3-for-3 and scored three runs. In the second inning, the Puget Sound shortstop made a big-league play. On a hard-hit grounder in the hole, Gross dove to his right, quickly got up and made the throw to first base in time for the out. Â
Â
Jackson Bolitho hit an RBI double in the game, and
Dylan Joyce swiped his first bag of the season.
Â
A trio of senior pitchers made appearances out of the bullpen.
Jackson Dinkel kept the Lutes off the board in the sixth inning.
Tyler Beckley appeared as though he would keep the shutout intact, but PLU scored twice with two outs in the seventh inning.
Chris Pullen allowed one unearned run in the eighth inning.
Â
Puget Sound returns to Logger Field to host Pacific for a non-conference game Saturday, April 30, at 3 p.m.
