Loggers Batte Rain, Bearcats In Loss At Willamette

SALEM, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound softball team battled the weather and Willamette on Sunday and fell 8-0 to the host Bearcats (8-11, 5-6 NWC). The Loggers (7-16, 5-8 NWC) managed just two hits in the five-inning game. The second game was postponed due to rain.

Willamette jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the first inning. The Bearcats sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning before Joleen Monfiletto put an end to the rally with an inning-ending fielders choice.

Monfiletto also recorded one of the Loggers' two hits in the game with a single in the top of the fifth. Elayna Van Hess recorded the other hit with a double to left in the second inning.

Sunday's second game was canceled due to continued rain. A makeup date has not yet been set. The Loggers return to the road next week to take on Linfield on Friday and Sunday and will travel to Pacific on Saturday.
