Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – The return home was well worth the wait as the University of Puget Sound lacrosse team defeated Morrisville St. 17-9 on Friday for its first victory of the season. Julia Schulman scored six goals, including five in the first half, to lead the Loggers (1-4) to the win.
The Loggers jumped out to 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes behind three Schulman goals. The first of which came less than a minute into the match. Anna Gunderson also scored her first of four goals in the match to help the Loggers to an early lead.
Alison Falkenbugh finally broke the Mustangs' (0-3) silence with a goal at the 18:40 mark, but the Loggers answered with two more goals from Gunderson and Katherine Havlik to boost the lead to 6-1.
A couple quick strikes from Jamie Anderson brought the Mustangs back within two but the Loggers finished the half on a 5-1 run to take an 11-4 lead into the half.
In the second half, the Mustangs kept pace with the Loggers but never closed the deficit to less than five goals as the Loggers held on for the 17-9 win.
Ana Calciano made eight saves while allowing only six of the Mustangs goals.
The Loggers will continue their homestand tomorrow when they host Cathage at 1 p.m. in Baker Stadium.
